shocked to see freshbooks didn't make the list. it's a wicked accounting app.
  • James Fleeting · 1 year ago
I would second that. Been using freshbooks for awhile.

Every single time something like this gets written I am surprised that moneytrackin.com is never mentioned. Though they do have a social aspect like many of these others do, but I am in love with the simple interface. I have been using them for over 1.5 years.

I would also like to shout out freshbooks; those guys are awesome.

I've used Expensure.com to keep track of expenses on a few trips I've taken with friends. Works great! At the end of the trip everyone knew who had paid for what and who owes who money. Sorted.

    And where's Xero.com and Freshbooks?

Jakob Nielsen included Xero in his "10 Best Application UIs of 2008" list for 2008.

Don't forget about Wesabe. I find it easier to use than Mint.
  • Paul · 1 year ago
Xero is easily the slickest app for business accounting (surely that should be on the list?), Mint is cool for your personal/private stuff and Expensure wins hands down for shared expenses.

Me and some friends used Expensure recently to keep track of money for a trip we had coming up, I can recommend it if you are more than two people.

It solves the old "I paid X for this, but you paid Y for that and this other person paid Z for this, so how much do I owe you again ?".

Being in a group of friends where individuals regularly buy tickets and and make bookings for groups of people, I know life was was much more difficult (ie I lost out on a lot of money owed) before Expensure surfaced. Now it is just as important to me as google, twitter, delicious, facebook and all the rest of those cannot-live-withouts.

If i was a disciple, Expensure would be my part of my testament.

    truth.

Expensure.com rocks! My boyfriend and I use it to keep tabs on everything we each pay for - avoids a lot of arguments! It's free and really easy to use. Genius.

Where is pearbudget.com for personal financing? A great tool that is dead simple as both a budgeting tool and a personal accounting tool.

Hurray for listicles. Now that mashable puts them out every day, can we rename the site. Perhaps, mashiticles.com or mashabalistics.com. Seriously guys, these lists are such filler. I feel like I'm on forbes.com.
  • swissy · 1 year ago
I use the Expensure.com site as well and i works great for me. Its realy easy to use and saves you the hussle of having to go around and remind everyone how much they ow and for what.
Must be a good thing if evan the swiss are using it!

I've used a few of these sites to try and manage shared bills with friends and have found expensure.com wins hands down. It makes the process far quicker and easier -- no overly-complicated forms to keep filling in. It's simple and effective.

saasu.com has more features than almost all of your list and works in 50 countries, suggest you check it out for next version of this list that you publish. Cheers, Peter.

A somewhat direct competitor with Expensure, Scred provides pools (like ledgers), but also has a mobile version which actually works without any Internet or cellular connection (synchs to the server when you get back home after a trip) and automatically calculates all your foreign currencies. Both essential features if you are travelling, or just spending nights out.

    Hey Sean,

I'm late in on this one...

SaaS accounting vendors are multiplying rapidly - according to Andy at accountingweb.co.uk circa 15 new vendors landed this summer. Check out their review of Pearl.

Pearl was ranked top 4 in the 2008 Software Satisfaction Awards (Winner announced on Oct 08).

I really like the spendji.com site and feel that this would be a fantastic tool for my students to use for many of the projects/activities that they work on in math. The group design would be fun for them and keep them motivated
