  • Kevin Ho · 9 months ago
What, no Married to the Sea, Nedroid, Chainsawsuit, Buttersafe, Abstruse Goose, 909sickle, Super Mega or even Dinosaur comics? :O

Other than that, pretty good list. Props on SMBC and xkcd.

If you’re a dedicated follower of tiffany like me. Don't miss the tiffanys & co. on sale including pendants, necklace, earrings, bracelets on line. tiffany jewelry is the one thing that outlasts the cake, champagne and music. links of london jewelry discount , famous for its sweetie and friendship bracelets.Ed hardy designer, christian audigier , is a brand of ed hardy, and now are favored in the moderning world as a mark of its nice tatoo.
  • Rob · 9 months ago
I'd add Sinfest (www.sinfest.com), PartiallyClips (www.partiallyclips.com) and Bunny (www.bunny-comic.com) to that list
  • Red · 9 months ago
yep, sinfest should be on the list too. they're simply hilarious!
  • mrshl · 9 months ago
    Achewood. Duh.
  • Matt Shore · 9 months ago
All Hells of Yes on this comment. I been reading Achewood longer than any of these. It's better and more consistent than any other web comic in existence.
  • v · 9 months ago
My two favourites are: "Least I Could Do" (http://leasticoulddo.com) and "Dilbert" (http://dilbert.com)
  • mdt · 9 months ago
Traced.com is another good one - incorporates user participation through comments.
    http://www.traced.com
  • Your Name* · 9 months ago
OK This list is pretty good but missing Order of the Stick (www.giantitp.com) and General Protection Fault (www.gpf-comics.com) on the list of great webcomics.
  • ProCommunicator · 9 months ago
Just a note...your xkcd link is directed to xckd.com...notice the subtle switch of letters.
  • mashable · 9 months ago
    Link fixed, thx!
  • Dale · 9 months ago
    Being Five
    www.beingfive.com
  • Patrick Schulz · 9 months ago
Well, people have already mentioned a few I read (Order of the Stick, Bunny and Sinfest) but I would also add Basic Instructions (http://basicinstructions.net/) to the list. It is usually pretty funny, and it is a good way to learn some lessons.
  • FilmFan · 9 months ago
Scary Go Round! Also WE THE ROBOTS, Theater Hopper, Thinkin' Lincoln and Evil Inc (though that's been a bit rubbish this week).
  • Lou · 9 months ago
  • Tormy · 9 months ago
How can extralife not be on this list? Its much better then many of these
  • Vitsen · 9 months ago
Dilbert (www.dilbert.com) is pretty good, as is Order of the Stick (www.giantitp.com). Recently, my friend also introduced me to Looking For Group (www.lfgcomic.com). All three are hilarious IMO.
  • Andrew · 9 months ago
I would add Least I Could Do (www.leasticoulddo.com) and Looking For Group (www.lfgcomic.com) myself
  • Don · 9 months ago
No Least I Could Do? That's one of my favorites!
  • Mark · 9 months ago
    Second the Achewood comment. Rocks.
  • kurokicc · 9 months ago
Dresden Codak, Rice Boy, pictures for sad children, WE THE ROBOTS, Lackadaisy Cats, Achewood, and last but not least, Dinosaur Comics!!!

Also I can't stand Ctrl+Alt+Del, there are a countless number of things wrong with it.
  • John Galt · 9 months ago
Surprised nobody's mentioned Doomed to Obscurity yet. I just recently discovered it and it publishes on odd-numbered days, but it's got quite a track record already.
  • Kevin · 9 months ago
CAD, really? That's one of the worst webcomics out there. The art is lazy copy-paste, the writing is atrocious, and Tim Buckley is a dick who refuses to listen to any criticism, constructive or otherwise.
  • Gryffling · 9 months ago
Props for having QC and xkcd on the list and, Girl Genius sounds interesting, but some that are missing imo:
www.asofterworld.com A Softer World - really dark, existential humour.
www.picturesforsadchildren.com pictures for sad children - cute but dark.
www.threepanelsoul.com Three Panel Soul - stunningly drawn. Often centres around gaming.
    dresdencodak.com Dresden Codak - futuristic/science/Enlightenment-based humour.
  • Paul · 9 months ago
    DINOSAUR COMICS

    http://mywintercap.com is up and coming
  • Mark · 9 months ago
Great list, two I think should also be on here are Least I Could Do (www.licd.com) and Looking For Group (www.lfgcomic.com)
  • David · 9 months ago
Hmm, some nice stuff. Is it in any particular order (Ascending/descending) or are the titles jumbled up?
  • The Man · 9 months ago
Seriously, CAD makes the list but Perry Bible Fellowship (www.pbfcomics.com) doesn't? It's one of the greatest comics ever made.
  • Frederick · 9 months ago
I've gotta say this list is trying to combine two different kind of web comic entertainment, traditional style comics on the web (i.e. PvP) and Flash comics (i.e. Homestar Runner & Foamy with Ill Will Press), and I think the traditional style comic could easily do 20

Honestly, I'm disappointed that Sluggy Freelance (www.sluggy.com) isn't on here, as that's probably one of the most epic web comics out there for almost 12 years. Who doesn't love a psychotic killing bunny who took over the holidays, and that was just one story arc.

I'll chime in on Order of the Stick as well, as I've been following that for a number of years, and there are more great puns in there than a lot of comics.
  • CHIZIENOMAH · 9 months ago
  • jyamasaki · 9 months ago
I don't know if this counts, but http://www.darthsanddroids.net/ is hilarious and who can go wrong with Star Wars?
  • ClassicalDragon · 9 months ago
A great list with only one notable exception - Order of the Stick (www.giantitp.com) is easily one of the best out there.
  • TokyoMix · 9 months ago
A lot of gag-a-day stuff up there (Dr. McNinja is a notable exception). How about http://www.nightzero.com ?
  • Derek · 9 months ago
www.gucomics.com because Woody's a genious. www.lfgcomic.com because where else can you read the words FOR PONY!
  • Ren Caldwell · 9 months ago
Genrezvous Point - the funniest/most satirical movie comic I've ever read.
  • Nathania · 9 months ago
Add Supernatural Law to your list
    http://www.webcomicsnation.com/supernaturallaw/
  • nevyn · 9 months ago
Wha-a-at! I like all of those comics, but none of them reach the genius that is www.samandfuzzy.com!
  • Nick · 9 months ago
  • Penelope @ Pecuniarities · 9 months ago
Another great one is Harold's Planet. I get the daily emails and never tire of them.
  • Rachel · 9 months ago
Quite a great list on there! I love most of them.
Another couple of great ones that I read regularly are:
    Gunnerkrigg Court ( www.gunnerkrigg.com )
    Girls With Slingshots ( www.gwscomic.com)
  • Reynard · 9 months ago

  • flickerbat · 9 months ago

I agree Sinfest should be included although the proper link is http://www.sinfest.net and nobody mentioned What the Duck http://www.whattheduck.net/
  • Ray · 9 months ago
You should give 2P START! a glance sometime.

  • Masterson · 9 months ago
OMG!! VGCats!!!! and where is sinfest.... but omg where is VGCats!!!!
  • Rockfield · 9 months ago
No Achewood? Your list is automatically retarded. Doubly so because you included that horrible piece of crap called Questionable Content.
  • MarkEdmondson · 9 months ago
"and you’ll find a bonus joke or an explanation for the head scratchers, in the images’ alt tags." - sorry to geek out but xkcd fans will care!

Its the images TItle tags, not Alt - :)
  • Johnson · 9 months ago
For a slightly different type of comic (still family friendly) I tune into http://www.supersexyheroines.com. Superheroines in action fighting the bad guys. Great stuff.
  • Andrew · 9 months ago
How could you have missed Looking for Group? IMO the best web comic. www.lfgcomic.com
  • Stefan · 9 months ago
  • Apocrypha · 9 months ago
Perry Bible Fellowship should be on here as well. One of the top 2 webcomics along with xkcd.
  • TylerC · 9 months ago
Ctrl + Alt + Del, is one of, if not THE worst webcomic I have ever read. He needs to learn how to draw, it's like he just copy pastes preset faces on his character, and they all have that retarded smile. The jokes shouldn't take that much dialogue to be good, it makes it worse. I bet Tim couldn't create a good 1 panel comic for his life, there is more to say but I don't have that time to waste.

    /rant.
  • Odin · 9 months ago
"Looking for group" http://www.lfgcomic.com and "Teh Gladiators" http://www.tehgladiators.com are my favorite WoW comics.

Also, some awesome Cartoon Network fan comics (that look really professional):

"Grim Tales" http://grim.snafu-comics.com and "Power Puff Girl Doujinshi" http://ppg.snafu-comics.com

BTW, Facebook connect seems not working on Mashable
  • Kates · 9 months ago
I think Scary Go Round by John Allison (www.scarygoround.com), Anders Loves Maria by Rene Engstrom (www.anderslovesmaria.com) and pictures for sad children by John Campbell(www.picturesforsadchildren.com) need honorable mentions!

I'm glad someone already mentioned Three Panel Soul (those guys got me into webcomics with MacHall back in the day) and Sluggy Freelance.

But what about Something Positive? (http://www.somethingpositive.net/index.html)

And another favorite of mine is Devil's Panties, but that might just be because I'm in the WHOA minority (not a gamer, and a girl) Oh well. http://devilspanties.keenspot.com/

Anyone who puts Ctrl-Alt-Del as a 'top 20 webcomic' should be forcibly placed into a rocket and fired into the sun. The minute increase in temperature due to this person's ignition will hopefully provide plants with enough light to produce more glucose which in turn will work its way through the food chain to humans, and I pray to all that is holy in this world that those extra calories will allow us, as a specie, to DEVELOP SOME BASIC TASTE. STOP HAVING OPINIONS EVER AGAIN.
  • Rob · 9 months ago
Some of these are great (namely Homestar Runner) and some not as much. The review could have benefited by identifying what titles of these are all-ages (such as Homestar Runner) and which ones are not as much so.
  • Steve · 9 months ago
I really think you need to add Least I could Do to your list

This is a great list. Have you seen Tactical Diversion, http://www.tacticaldiversion.com/ ? It's the best use of the web medium I've seen. Plus, totally smart and hilarious and topical...

The trouble with this type of "best of" list is that they almost always focus exclusively on the most POPULAR webcomics and largely on gag strips. And - as we all know - popularity has nothing to do with quality.

If, like other media, webcomics were judged according to the quality of their art and writing, most "best of" lists would look very different!

    Two notable omissions:

    Calamities of Nature http://www.calamitiesofnature.com/

    Dinosaur Comics http://www.qwantz.com/

    Otherwise, great list!

What?! Where's Bob Scott's "Molly and the Bear?" No "Rabbits Against Magic?" No "The Life of Lou?" Where is Chris Sander's "Kiskaloo?" You gotta be kidding?!! This list is a waste of time.

A webcomic for over 10 years, follow the stories of 6 twisted souls trying to make by through relationships, classes, and fending off against Satan himself. A must-read

http://www.rice-boy.com should be on the top this list, and is just one example of the kind of unique, original webcomics that are out there....Act-i-Vate, Kate Beaton's History Comics, KC Green's Gunshow and Horribleville, Transmission-X....there are literally dozens that top some of the things here

Good list. I wouldn't exactly call Homestarrunner.com an online webcomic and I think the entertainment value for that falls off with age. Id suggest looking into www.leasticoulddo.com. Great comic focusing on modern news stories through the main character. Worth it to read from the begining. Artistry has changed with the development of the comic. Well maintained and updated site. Now has a sunday page as well. Highly suggest it!!

I love many of these and am glad to see some new ones that I will check out. I'd like to recommend "Order of the Stick" which plays with the D&D genre by following a party of semi-stick figure characters through an amazing "epic" campaign that breaks the 4th wall, plays with metaknowledge, and essentially parodies many of the archetypes of fantasy and video games. Check it out @ http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0001.html

*gasp* No Dinosaur Comics? No best webcomics list is complete without Dinosaur Comics! (www.qwantz.com) No webcomic I know of has created a character as quaint and lovable as T-Rex. I'm afraid this list is a failure because of the exclusion of Dinosaur Comics.

If you haven't seen "Bolofeesh" you ought to check it out. It's a one panel cartoon that takes place TOTALLY inside a fish bowl between TWO fish. Funny as hell! How does this guy keep coming up with stuff for two fish to talk about is beyond me but look for yourself: http://bolofeesh.com

kinda left out Married to The Sea, Perry Bible Fellowship, Least I Could Do, Nothing Better, and Achewood but yeah, I *guess* these are funny if you like sticking to topical references, and sub-par, misguided nerd humor.
  • Tsunami · 9 months ago
Great list. Some of my biggest favs, such as xkcd, red meat and c&h, and as an added bonus, there are quite a few I've never read, which I'm promptly bookmarking. I'm still missing a few entries, though. Anomaly, Subnormality, Dinosaur Comics, Wondermark, Buttersafe and VG Cats are all comics I think'd deserve a place on this list. Then again, putting up a list always means excluding a few worthy entries. Good work.

Not exactly a correction, but saying that only a "few" webcartoonists are making a living at it is not entirely right. To my knowledge, almost everyone on that list makes a living at it, and there are many more.

Too bad you missed the two VERY BEST: "Pibgorn" & "9 Chickweed Lane," both brilliantly written by Brooke McEldowney. These are the most intelligent, literary, artistic & witty comics on the web! But, glad to see you did catch "Freak Angels."

No Sinfest? No Dinosaur Comics? No Irregular Webcomic? What about Married to the Sea, Least I Could Do, and A Softer World? For shame!

Props on CAD, QC and xkcd, but Megatokyo isn't good anymore, especially since the shoulder angels stopped showing up. It's all just Piro whining about how much his life sucks.

I might also suggest Wulffmorgenthaler. It's a bit like Cyanide & Happiness, only more colorful and more social-commentary-oriented.
