Mashable - The Social Media Guide: 20 of the Best SEO Plugins for WordPress

  • lindseygeorge · 8 months ago
Are any of these tools available to use if you have the freebie blogs from wordpress? Because we are stuck!
  • Viralwordpress · 8 months ago
Better off using your own hosted wordpress. Not only are the options better. But did you know wordpress will delete your free blog if they don't like the things you say?

You can find a host that has fantastico, which will allow you to 1 click install wordpress for about $5 a month

One of the most overlooked aspects of SEO on blogs is indexing depth

    http://moshublog.com/2007/10/30/custom-query-st...

Also often overlooked is a simple plugin I created to nofollow links in the content on all but the permalink pages.
    http://andybeard.eu/wordpress-plugins/nofollow-...
I wouldn't even bother link dropping it, but Mashable could benefit a lot from using it too
  • Jeanne Caccia-Silva · 8 months ago
Although my current Wordpress blogs have some of the listed plugins installed I think I have found a couple on your list that I will be adding over the weekend. Trying to keep up with all this stuff is a daunting task for many of us. Thanks so much for the resource.
  • Tonya Harmati · 8 months ago
Here at www.regencyinteractive.com, we have really started to kick start our blog, and the plug ins are awesome. They are all easy to use and are valuable. We come to this site every day for information! You guys dish it out daily!

Some of these we have not incorporated yet, we will now!

I'm sooo tired of hearing about SEO. Let's face it... SEO is dead. But, let the SEO freaks think it is still alive and in a year or two we can visit them all in a nuthouse.

On another note... WORDPRESS YOUR SOFTWARE SUCKS!! YOU HAVE A 100,000,000 security holes and you are a million times more insecure than Windows.

    BEWARE OF WORDPRESS!!!
  • zohaibusman · 8 months ago
    good for my blog.
  • SEO · 8 months ago
nobody needs more than a few of these plug ins. Actually most only need all in one seo pack, google sitemap generator, dofollow plug in and the permalink redirect plug in..and the right robots.txt file installed to prevent dupe content that word press generates. Everything else is overkill
  • AndyBeard · 8 months ago
Using robots.txt to control duplicate content is creating hanging/dangling pages

Has anyone tried the new (released Mar 8, 2009) PeoplePond plugin?
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/peoplepond/

    Sample Plugin screenshots:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/peoplepond/...

It dynamically pulls your About Me bio (and pic) from PeoplePond (http://peoplepond.com), and places it into your blog About page.

It's essentially personal SEO, and we're seeing PeoplePond bio's quickly rising in Google page ranks, due to their SEO optimization.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Neil (plugin author)

Warnings to Business Travellers World Wide. White Anglo Saxon Male may be the Minority in Asia. If this happens to you, too, you must call 911 while in the taxi.

At the time of the incident, Andrew Steven Dyer was Managing Director of Standard Chartered Bank, Head of Cash and Trade Management, North East Asia. Around the midnight, on his way back from Hong Kong Airport, he took the first available taxi on line. Due to her dangerous driving, he got off the taxi before getting home and she refused to give him any change and insisted on driving him back home instead. She stopped him from taking another taxi. She grabbed his glasses and threw it onto the ground leaving him a 12cm scratches across his face. One of the glass lense fell off from the frame. Though the male had more injuries at the time when she kicked him on his chest, because the police spoke little English, he only spoke to her and a few other Chinese and arrested him. Within 5 min of arrival to the scene, according to the police report, Andrew Dyer was already under the custody of the police at the Central police station in Wanchai. The police spent no time to investigate. Although the forensic report stated her injuries on her feet are stress fractures developed over a long period of time, the police, with little comprehension of English, misread the medical report and charged White Anglo Saxon with GBH (Wounding 19). He submitted Complaint Against Police Officer in June 2008 for Racism & Harrassement. The female taxi driver was convicted for beaeting up another within the same year. She was also convicted for Offering Service in Airport area Without Permission of Airport Authority one week after the alledged incident and during the paid leave given for her non-existing injuries. In 1987, she was convicted of Causing Wasteful Employment Of Police.

This is good stuff but they are just too many. Some are duplicate in function. Will you able to sort out a few of these that are working great for you so far? Don't tell me that you are using them all?
  • Jes · 8 months ago
    Pinoy,

I mostly use the All in One SEO. It covers pretty much all of them combined, with the exception of a few listed above.

Great post! I have some of these in use already, and it's great to see that there are more available!
  • Ivan | Jobs Blog · 8 months ago
Great list! I as a believer of a All-in-One Pluggin combined with the XML Sitemap, but it all depends what kind of a blog you are publishing. I applied a Seo Friendly Images on a blog with lots of my sailing photographs,.. and got some 20% traffic increase in a month and a half.
  • Iron Spider · 8 months ago
Thanks for the extensive list. However, your description for SEO Title Tag appears to be incorrect. I've been using that plugin for over a year now. That plugin is specifically for setting the text for the actual HTML title tag of each page on your blog. As most who are into SEO know, the text in the title tag of a web page has a lot of clout when it comes to ranking well in SERPs. Your description, however, appears to talking about Wordpress tags and this plugin has nothing to do with that.
  • ivalnaz · 8 months ago
I have been using 3 plugins on your list and so far so good they have been bringing me lots of visitors on my site. If it werent for this plugins i may be doing a very hard time of SEO coding.

Improve your rankings and google PR with viral tags! It really works! Viral Tags

Thanks for putting this list together. I already use a few of the plugins listed here but there are still some that sound interesting and useful, too. There also some quite interesting plugin links in the comments. Need to browse through them when I have some more time. Worth bookmarking this page. :)

@Johnny Bond: There is a plugin called Sociable which allows you to implement the share it feature: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/sociable

Your list is very helpful I'm using some of the plugins you did mention in my new blog http://mustache.exofire.net
  • Greg · 4 months ago
Another I would suggest for the list is Greg's High Performance SEO, which configures over 100 separate SEO characteristics while loading only about 600 lines of code per page view and avoiding the use of crude output buffer hacks. By contrast, the 'leading' SEO plugin (I won't name names!) configures around 20 parameters and loads something like 2000 lines of code.

It's not for everybody -- several people have reported that they don't want to have to deal with the full SEO picture and would rather just the some basics. But I think it's worth checking out.

    All the best,
    Greg (yep, that one)
  • Kamal Panhwar · 3 months ago
Very nice and good article. But why would someone use nofollow, except some privacy issues. As we just love search engine to come and visit. I have not used all but just few, I will try to use others.

Heads up to the Mashable community on a new SEO plugin for WordPress named SEO Ultimate from our lead developer John Lamansky.

SEO Ultimate already rivals many of these SEO features of multiple plugins featured above and is "The True Mashup" of WordPress plugins; with new features constantly being released.

Just wanted to let the community know about it. For example, if you just wanted to use 2 or 3 module/features, you could use the module manager to prevent conflicts with other plugins (in the event you like your old set up) and still wanted to use it in tandem with other plugins.

Right now there are 9 modules, there will dozens when completed (however you can easily update new features quickly from the dashboard). It also features Integration with WordPress’s contextual help system.

The next release will feature an Internal linking module as well as the ability to import All in One SEO Packs Preferences. It truly is "The Swiss Army Knife of On Page SEO" which includes the ability to modify ,htaccess and robots.txt, title rewriting, index manager, you can save settings and use it on multiple Wordpress installations (once you dial-in the settings you like).

    Enjoy...

Currently, what's the best combination of seo plugins that are compatible with each other, and work without bugs with the latest version of WordPress (Version 2.8.4)? I'm new to Wordpress but it looks good.
  • i-Core · 3 months ago
All-in-one SEO pack is a great plugin, the only drawback i could find in that plugin is that it produces slow database queries and slows down the process of page loading.
Otherwise its a great contribution by Michael Torbert.

There seems to be a conundrum with WordPress that I also found with my template. Your home page has two sets of meta descriptions and keywords. The header description seems to trump the SEO Pack’s in Google — In other words, the first description is what displays in the SERPs. However, if you comment out the first description, then you end up with no description in your Tag or Category pages.
