Cheers.. Are
The projected figure of 18 million for 2009 is for US adult users only. The rapid growth of Twitter in the UK, plus the rest of Europe, Australaisa and wherever on the globe - it's a big world outside of the US - will probably take the figure nearer to 35 million. Who knows? Twitter will, at the end of the year. Exponential growth is phenomenal and may surprise everyone.
but honestly, i think Twitter will be die when Google launched Google Wave.

IMHO 18 Milion Twitter users is more social than 250M in fb, most of the people are on fb to chat or to upload pics from holidays: fb is nothing new and will not last.
im not mean ppl promptly move from Twitter to Wave. Surely they will use both at the first time. but by Google product convergence, they possible to use Wave for their short message finally. It depend on how Wave well blend with other Google products (mail, map,...) and making more user experience.
Twitter vs FB :
by PR & Marketing point of view,
many number of twitter-er come for sell their product. moreover, they come for sell someone else products. so that's mean a part of this community is seller community.
but ppl who love to play games, come for chat and upload their party pics is the real customer. its mean fb is the real customer community.
Of course they'd better be users that actually use the service and not just placeholders.
