Mashable - The Social Media Guide: 15 Places to Make Money Creating Your Own Products

  • Chad Clark · 3 months ago
There are many ways to make money online but I think people dont believe its really possible so they do not put forth the effort. We all have the potential the more you believe you can do it the more potential you have and the more effort you put in and you get better results which makes you believe more in turn giving you more potential and so on.

  • R. O'Quinn · 3 months ago
The article title isn't "print on demand", it's 15 Places to Make Money Creating Your Own Projects. Etsy is definitely a place to do this.

CafePress really annoyed me. After I signed up I realised they only send out paper cheques in US dollars internationally. This was a show stopper, as it costs $50+ to have the cheques cleared and converted to local currency. What year is this? Have they heard of paypal? They must be losing a lot of business this way. /whinge. Other than that, it seemed like it was going to be great.

Most of these companies are cool, but you are unlikely to make much money from them unless you get a ton of traffic.

I've sold my music on CD Baby for years. It's a great concept for a site, and is pretty well executed. CafePress is good for prototypes and test marketing...but the prices are ridiculously high...so you're not going to make any money at all there, unless you sell phenomenal amounts, or unless people will pay their ridiculous prices PLUS a nice markup for you. It's mostly good for vanity projects or one-offs. If you have a prayer of selling even a few hundred of your product, you'd be better off ordering in bulk elsewhere. That being said, the user interface is great. Not familiar with most of the others (except by name), but I'm bookmarking this for future reference. This was a very helpful post. Thanks!

Great sites reviewed. There is also www.kakadujuice.com/superfoods-usa which fills your criteria of no purchase, no inventory and easy distribution.

It can also significantly change your life through better health and having that extra money each month to improve your lifestyle.

i am going to start my clothing logo and charge outrageous amounts of money per item. it will be great since the only out of pocket will be my time and ip.
  • jennifered · 3 months ago
Love the spirit of the post and some of the suggestions are damn helpful, thanks! As an aside, I would agree with some of the other folks here about CafePress, although my bad experience was some time ago and if they had something I could only create there, I'd use them. Didn't see anyone else mention, but I also find Vista Print (@vistaprint) meets a ton of my needs... and they're expanding to reusable totes and other useful stuff all the time. I've only had good experiences with them. Also, Frecklebox (@frecklebox) is a good one for kids products, customized with their names, etc. Not everything about them is perfect, but I've met the people and they're trying hard to make some headway with high-quality products. If I had kids, I'd use them again and again...

    Cheers,
    Jennifer Lindsay
