Be careful with Twitterfall, setting the stream to fast almost put me into a seizure.

Have been using twopular, tweetmeme, twendz, Twist to keep track with the hottest trends. Also, in combination of Twitter search to verify the results. Quite a number of apps been released in search of trend-tracking, which is why I had to dissect them for a clearer view. The pros & cons are for readers to identify which would best go for them in search of the best apps: http://tinyurl.com/d4ecql

I simply follow trendyobot on Twitter( http://bit.ly/b4dzJ ). What I really like is that this bot doesn't repeat the same trends over and over if they stay in the list for a while or go in and out of it throughout the day like the others do.

Tweetizen does a pretty good job as well... by grouping tweets that can be saved for later. Like today's easter trend: http://www.tweetizen.com/trends/Easter

I agree with Joel. Trendyobot http://bit.ly/b4dzJ is by far the best trends bot on Twitter. The others are just full of repetition.

All of the above are awesome - but my new favorite tracker is SIDELINE, by yahoo, for the Adobe Air Framework

I'd write about how good it is, but funnily enough i just reviewed it and other twitter/air apps last night to post on my blog next week. Suffice to say for now - install it, play with it, fall in love with it!

Twitter trend tracking is indeed fascinating, but i also feel not to be taken too seriously at this point, as a lot of the hashtag users etc are more "power users" and therefore not particularly representative of sentiment. But for an addicted peoplewatcher and trendwatcher like myself - watching peoples voice across the twittersphere is compulsive and highly addictive.

My one last word of advice - track "regular phrase" as well as hashtag. As proven yesterday as I tracked opinions on the Jack Black Yo Gabba Gabba special edition - totally different set of tweeters using "Yo Gabba gabba" and #yogabbagabba. It's little things like this that make me feel tracking twitter sentiment is still down to an individuals personal interpretation.

Good work - keep it up. And feel free to check in on my upcoming "Twitter Trilogy" starting next week ;)

i used SIDELINE as well... it is pretty awesome and love the fact it is based on Adobe AIR. no need to open a website to track trends...

I use twitter search everyday to find stuff. But i'll have to check out these other sites. The key twitter is harnessing all the info and getting a grip on whats going on. So this stuff will probably help!

I was using Tweetgrid.com to track a hashtagged event last night (#pawpawty) it makes it easy to set a live search and tweet within the site, it even adds the search term to your tweets it you like. It was great. The best thing is, it lets you set up multiple 'grids' so you can watch many things at once.
