Mashable - The Social Media Guide: 10 Ways to Find People on Twitter

  • iTbay · 5 months ago
    nice!

Would also say Twitter for Busy People http://www.twitterforbusypeople.com/index.html
For instance, by typing in "google" for instance in the search bar, it will provide you with an overview of who Google is following & what they're generally saying rather than scanning the followers page at www.twitter.com/google which can take time especially if one has thousands of followers.

    Nice people search tip, iTbay.

I prefer Twitter search. Best way to find people who are interested in the same things you are is to search based on the content of one of your recent tweets. If other people posted a link you found interesting enough to post, chances are they will do it again, and a quick glance at their recent posts is usually enough to tell.

This is great information. I've been trying to add as many of my current customers by letting them know we are now on twitter, hoping they'll find us. A few times I've used the regular search functions. My real question is; will someone invent an app that allows you to hide form certain customers!? j/k We love them all, even the difficult ones.

Thanks for this article. Just wanted to say that I was only using 2 of the 10 ways you posted (WeFollow and Twitter Search). Definitely going to check these out now. I would be interested to know if any of the Twitter apps out there ( e.q. TweetDeck) allow you to do some of the same things.

    Josh,

You forgot about http://localtweeps.com - it's the only authentic (user created) directory that drills down to the Zip Code level. A great way to find and get found by tweeps near you.

You can also use Google (surprisingly enough ^^) with a simple search string and specifiy exactly what you want to search for:

I like the concept of Who Should I Follow?, but I would LOVE it if it would isolate tweeps who were more like "me" and not just like the people I follow/follow me already.

I'm actually building my own solution - http://profiles.im/

Still in development, but this will give you an extended, customizable Twitter profile as well as a place in the user directory. Would be nice to get some feedback.

You forgot Tweepfind, it shows you people whose bio contains certain keywords and displays results by rank, that is the ones who use Twitter more intensely are shown first.

I've developed an application called find2follow, which is basically a minimalistic approach to finding people you may like to follow on twitter. No sign-in, no sign-up, just one textbox and a button. Check this out: http://tr.im/o5az

    Hi Josh,

Twellow is still my choice now, it has indexed over 7 million users as claimed, and the speed is still good.

I just came across a new twitter search engine on twitter fan wiki, utwitbook.com. It doesn't tell how many twitter-ers been indexed, but seemed it return 1000 results the most for per request. The most interesting here is it provide a color search feature, like you can find the people with a red sidebar, I don't know how this work or why I want to search like this, but at least a cook stuff.

tweepz seemed have some performance issue if you choose to sort by followers.

Mr. Tweet seemed good, but I didn't get a try, I don't how it will pm me.

I am looking for a person I knew 41 years ago. He is German. His name is Hans Schebalsky! I know! It gets even better with his middle name. Anyway, anybody have any ideas?

Twitter is commonly referred to as “micro-blogging.” While this is an accurate description, I’ve found that it confuses some people (non-bloggers especially). For a long time, I thought every1 was reading my posts up until recently I realized that only my followers are doing so.
