Is that a new link for Qwitter? Asking because it hasn't worked in a very long time, so I don't know how useful telling people about it really is.
  • Josh Catone · 6 months ago
    Hi suki,

Thanks for the comment. I've actually heard a few reports now that Qwitter is less reliable than it was (though I've also seen recent positive reviews). Anyway, I've just updated the post with a suggestion for an alternative service that does essentially the same thing.

The jury's still out on how great Friend or Follow is, but I will say this...their Loading image is fantastic.
  • Andy Crofford · 6 months ago
Does Qwitter actually work? I have had ZERO success with it an know of several other with the same results.
  • Josh Catone · 6 months ago
Hi Andy, I've updated the post with an alternative suggestion. :)

I agree Qwitter wasn't working when I used it last. Has it improved now?
  • Josh Catone · 6 months ago
I guess I just assumed no one had stopped following me recently. ;)

In all seriousness, though, I've heard reports both ways on Qwitter -- some that it works well, others that it misses some unfollows. That said, I've added an alternative service to the post.

    Thanks for the comment!
  • KNAN · 6 months ago
Well, Qwitter treated me a bit differently...I got alerts of unfollowings in bulk. They infrequently compiled a list and sent it over, blaming my most recent, "innocent" tweet as the culprit for losing so many followers :( Appreciate the prompt reply from you. And LoL, I'm still following you- http://twitter.com/KNAN

Surprised http://sherflock.com didn't make the list

What kinds of things can we do to make sure that the sites we're entering our username and password into are legit?
  • Ajax Jones · 6 months ago
They should implement OAuth, we did for StatusAdder in a matter of a day or so. Although its supposed to be beta with Twitter, I have no idea why any reputable outfit wouldnt provide it for their users. If they don't it makes you wonder why they still would like to grab your username and passwords. Some pretty massive twitter 3rd parties don't implement it, really does make you wonder.
  • Colton · 6 months ago
Twitter less isn't working either: http://twitter.com/tless I've been trying to sign up for an account for a while now and still nothing, any other alternatives?
  • Yossi Ben Haroosh · 6 months ago
What Twitter really needs is to allow their users a freedom of expression - 140 characters isn't enough. Watch this, it's hilarious:

Tweepular is also a great all-in-one program where you can follow up to 200 people, see who's following and not following you and unfollow those who aren't. I just started using it and no complaints. great user interface too. not a spokesperson for them lol
  • Christopher · 6 months ago
You could also use twittFilter.com (my app) Its scores each users so that you can sort based on those scores. Sorts you new followers emails too.
  • colonelcrow · 6 months ago
What would be useful, oh eager twitter app developers, woul be something that doesn't require you to hand over your password if you want to use it.
Also, a twitter browser that lets you favourite some users - i.e. saves their writings to the top of your feed until read - and lets the others skim by. Therefore you can adjust your feed to what your read...e.g if you read everything, then favourite noone and read all when you look at the feed. If you only really care about 5 people on there, and read the rest intermittently, then it lets you see those 5 at the top while the others can be read optionally.

Thanks for these resources, I have to admit that my Twitter experience is starting to get more time-consuming than I can handle. I follow a lot of great people with great information -- too much!

I also appreciate the alternative to Qwitter. I never even tried it because I've heard from so many people about how unreliable it is.

  • cloudberryman · 6 months ago
If you use Firefox you may want to try TweetFox, the twitter add-on for Firefox that helps you post quotes from the websites you visit to your twitter account http://tweetfox.cloudberrylab.com/ IE plug-in is also available.

How about adding Refollow to the list? http://twitdom.com/refollow
  • Stuart Dallas · 6 months ago
Another alternative to Qwitter and Twitterless is TwitApps Follows. I think it's better than the rest but I'm biased since I wrote it ;-) Check it out at http://twitapps.com/follows/

Stuart - your app rocks :)

How about Buzzom http://buzzom.com ? Would love to know you view on it.

  • Alex C. · 6 months ago
There's no need for Tweeter Karma to see who follows you or not, you can do that yourself without extra plugin/software and for free! I'm showing you how here: http://tinyurl.com/cr3txu
But anyway, it's a good app!
Nice list btw, useful info! :)

    Regards!

If you're handy with PHP & SQL, I'd suggest the TwitterFollowers PHP class from @bendodson. It emails you a list of a) new followers, b) people who have stopped following you, and c) people who have re-followed you after previously un-following. It can be set to run (via cron) as frequently as you like. I'm working on a web-based service based on the class; if you want to play with it yourself, here's the link: http://bit.ly/1gAZt

Indeed I've found Qwitter to be unreliable for keeping track of who unfollows you. I've been using NutshellMail for the last 2 months and have been very pleased with it. It emails you a list of all your new followers (with avatars), and all those who unfollow you, along with your lastest replies & DMs since your last update. You can also schedule the emails for how often you'd like to receive them which has really been handy.

Thanks for the great tools. There are two other tools I would like to add to this list and they are Tweet Adder (http://bit.ly/mei9O) and Tweet Later (http://bit.ly/x09UR). With both of them you can auto find and add new followers, auto un-follow those that are not following you, auto set up to follow your new followers, set up auto tweets, and set up auto direct messages. They both have other features especially Tweet Later. I've tested both of them and they both work great.

As always, love to read your post,
    @cynthiamedinam

You just keep cranking out the good stuff....
With literally hundreds of apps and tools, for you to single out this combination and keep things faster, easier, simpler... makes it funner and much less overwhelming. GREAT! I dug it.

I decided to check out some of the apps mentioned in the article. I started with Twitoria. Entered my Twitter user name and viola, a list of the folks I'm following appears. In reviewing the data to see who has been Tweeting and how often, I find a number of inconsistencies. In fact, most of the folks that hve been filling up my inbox are listed as never Tweeting. One glaring error is Pete Cashmore. Evidently he has never Tweeted. Curious.

Great post! You should add Ref.ly to your list. It's an amazing new tool for turning Bible verses into short URLs.

  • Technoshaman · 5 months ago
Does anybody know of any tool that would let me sort my followers into lists. Ideal would be if it would let me create the label for those lists.
  • Goodbye, Buddy! · 5 months ago
True, Qwitter has not been at all reliable, in Gemany for one it has been months since anyone I know on Twitter received any notification from it.

Try following @goodbyebuddy on Twitter - there's no e-mail sign-up required. It sends a DM everytime you get unfollowed (and pretty promptly, too).

    See you soon :)

Thanks for the list. I've used both Karma and Twitterless to track what is happening with follows, and they are helpful. I don't know if what I am looking for exists and I've just missed it, but have a thought for the techie/ developer crowd.

I'd love to have a way to tag those people I follow, so I call sort and pull up their information. For example, I tweet mostly with the travel crowd, and some photographers. I just posted a photo gallery of Tumacacori Mission in Arizona, near Tucson. I know there are a couple of people I follow/ in my followers who are Tucson based. I can only remember one off hand. I'd like to send them a note about the post which they will get even if they are not watching their timeline right now. It would be too time consuming to sort through hundreds of people and try to find the others in Tucson. I'd also rather not set up a database of my own, and enter them all in as contacts. If there were a program which could bring up my tweeps, and I could attach a few key words, sort of like a photo management tool does, it would be super helpful.
